Should I?

This might sound a bit pathetic but it has been winding me up a little most of today.

I was diving tractor plus 14 tonne trailer along a narrow country lane (single carriageway) when I met a council dust cart coming the other way. Where we first saw each other we were on a straight about 200m long, slope running down from me to where he was on the level at the bottom of the hill.

I was coming down the hill, he was at the bottom starting to climb.

I guess both of us were not doing much more than 10mph, he was maybe doing a little more.

About 15m ahead of his spot was a double gate entrance, 14 foot gates and a splay so loads of room to pull in.

I slowed expecting him to slow and take the double gateway to allow me to pass.

He did not and headed up the hill to force me to reverse, to let him pass it meant me backing up about 75m to 100m.

Now I’ve been driving tractors and trailers for over 35 years, I feel I’m pretty competent but this time I decided to take my time as I was a little peeved. Probably no more than 4 mins.

I backed up to a T junction and reversed around the junction to allow him to go by, as he passed the driver leant out the window and shouted a few words at me and told me to learn to drive……well words to that effect and most of them would not get past the swear filter on here.

I was half tempted to pull out in front of him to hold him up again but there were 4 blokes in the cab with him.

I have his wagon number and a pic of his rear as he drove away, wagon is a council truck not a sub-contractor.

I am very tempted to ring in tomorrow to give some feedback on his driving but it probably wont come to anything and would be a waste of time…..

Should I bother?

Yep report him. Last week I stopped whilst the bin lorry blocked the road, no problem until I watched the driver finish his lunch and throw the wrapper out of the window into the road. I very politely informed him that he had dropped something out of the window and was told by him to foxtrot Oscar. Kept smiling while I took a photo of him and the number plate of the lorry, emailed the lot to the council and this week he is in a disciplinary hearing which if found guilty could result in being sacked. hope he looses his job, scum bag.

Yes the abuse was unjustified, you seem to have level head I would have said few choice words of my own followed by two finger salute.
If he gets a bollocking might make him think next time before acting like a nob head

I would ring up and complain especially if you have wagon number etc. I also wouldn't have reversed.

Binmen fall into the same catagory as lycra clad cyclists and townie taxi drivers in the sticks, all a bunch of prats. I'm sorry but I have issues with all of them, we have a fairly large comprehensive school a couple of villages away where my 15 year old goes. There isn't a bus from our village so I do the morning run for him and his mate and then the pick-up is covered by his mates mother. There are four coaches doing the run from the town via our village to the school and back again, all this on a road where any passing is done at a crawl and carefully. Then there are the taxi's that can happily squeeze between the tightest of gaps in a town but are frightened to death of a bit of foliage from a grass verge touching the paintwork. Lastly we come to the binmen, they're the ones who can only drive in the centre of the road, stop without notice at any point, the operators can leave the bins, empty or full wherever they like. When they have blocked you in the driver will just look at you like a piece of what they're putting in the back.
I will admit to have dropped a few complaints to the Council and it must be said that there have been slight improvements, theynow come to our village at a different time than when it's school run time, they don't use the village school playground to swing their lorry round and they don't seem to just plonk themselves in the pinch points on the village roads now either ;)

If you report him, what good will it do. Worlds full of arses, he was just another.... If I get bother from motorists when walking the cows in I either do one of two things, depending on my mood. Either take the abuse and give them a nice smile and wave, which seems to annoy them even more. Or stop the tractor and walk over to them with clenched fists and a pretend cross look on my face, it's amazing how quickly people change their mood. Don't annoy yourself over it....

Based on my own observations I have concluded that being a complete a-hole is a job requirement for bin lorry drivers. Can't recall ever coming across one that wasn't.

I don't know if it is the same everywhere but around here they block the road while their operators sort the recycling rubbish. This must cost the country an absolute fortune in wasted time, a hell of a lot more than being stuck behind a tractor does.

I have reported them in the past, and asked for a result. Always ask to be informed of what happened as this makes their bosses actually do something.
One was parked across my yard and I signalled that I wanted to pull in, but he would not move. I got out and pointed out that I wanted to drive in there, but he just shrugged and sat there. So I went back to my car and got a book out and sat and pretended to read it. He could not go anywhere. He did slide back a few feet in the end.
I was told he had been "diceplined" (sic).

The binmen where my mother lives emptied her wheely bin and left it up the road. Mum went out to bring her bin in and it wasn't there. She went to ask the binmen and they said she hadn't put her bin out. She said she had and they argued back that she hadn't. A couple of days later she got a letter from the council saying she had been 'abusive ' to the binmen !!!!!!
