Its good to be shrewd when it comes to invoices get them out fast keep the pressure on. Saying that an old guy i know well who was a very screwed on business man said he never worries about slow payers, as long as you know their situation. "Hooby you can only skin a cat once but you shear a sheep every year" He takes any form of payment cash, cars, fields, diggers. 99% of people are good and will pay it eventually its the ballache of the wait.

been wrapping bales since wrapping bales was invented and have always used my wrap and been paid
you can always go and reclaim the wrap that is yours until paid for, cutting a couple bales will produce money
many bad payers have money, the reason they have money is because they are bad payers, they try it with everyone and some they never pay so that's instant profit for them

There is no excuse for late payment whatsoever. A conversation with the supplier before they do work/supply goods asking for extended terms is all that is required, if that is refused then the work/goods are not supplied. We have a number of customers now on pro-forma and a number of others that we do not supply at all because of the way they miss-manage their accounts. If you need a loan, go see your bank manager I am not licensed to lend money and have my own bills to pay. I'm sick and tired of people giving excuses why they can't pay when they constantly post about their lavish lifestyle and cruises around the Caribbean on social media.

Met a neighbour on the road, and along with the gossip asked what he was up to at the mo'. 'Going round paying my debts' was the answer. 'I'm off on holiday next week and I don't want anyone casting slurs on my character by saying he was owed money while I was off gallivanting.'

Farming isn't the only trade btw. Mechanic cousin tried to make a business of his own working out of the farm buildings and had to give up and go back to paid employment because of bad debt. He still does privates in the evenings for selected customers, like me.

Standing in a well known builders merchant next to the open office door and the sec was on the phone to head office quoting lists of numbers and names. I gradually realised that she was quoting the list of bad payers and the amounts were eye watering!

It's probably because they are too busy trying to get everyone work done in a small weather window, and deem that to be more important than getting invoices out, and as to when contractors send bills out is their business, if it's 6 months after work is done then so be it, still does not make it acceptable to think "ach well he took ages to send the bill, i'll just wait and pay next month,"
There's always a wet day though. I'd rather pay and be paid. Think some contractors are too frightened that if they send a bill too soon, the customer will take offence.

its usually the ones that have this type of lifestyle along with the new cars 4x4 and so on, and small wonder cos someone else is paying for it.
what you all have to realise is that with some folk not paying is their business that's how they make their money

They don't stay my customer for long, I can do without that sort of business, let someone else have them and the worry of when you'll get paid.

I've not heard of anyone using their own wrap here. I'd be insulted if anyone asked TBH.
I have a few customers that supply wrap but one has around 2500 baled and wrapped annually at 4 layers (£2per Bale in wrap) and another has been around 1800 bale's a year for the last 15 year's at 6 layers (£3a Bale) so saving me in excess of 10k of capital being tied up

I am not condoning late payment but i was quite flexible with some for baling bills as i knew they would pay when they sold their stock and that certain times of year can be tight on some types of farms for cashflow. The ones that have the money and dont pay in reasonable time have no excuse and should be put in the stocks.

That's what their overdraft is for. Their problem not yours. Unless you are charging them for the service, in which case crack on!

Would rather buy my own quality wrap and choose what I buy. Usually Silawrap or Topwrap: never really had any problems with these.

Easy enough to supply enough rolls for the wrapper: one roll does 25 bales so take enough rolls to the field for the number of bales, plus maybe one for luck.

The wrapper man will bring back any unused wrap to the yard.

I think i'd only apply farmer's own wrap. Doesn't that work?
Sounds like a mugs game brokering inputs for pee-takers.
I wrap for a few who supply there own but when you pull into there field and theres no wrap no one about and no ones answering the phone and you have somewere else to be its a right ball ache also... oh and i nearly forgot the cheap wrap thats been badly handled dropped a few times thrown in a pickup full of tools ect so keeps ripping
