Show me some respect.

Respect is earned I know, but being discriminated for age is doing my head in!
I'm 26 look 18, still get asked for ID when the Mrs orders a Tesco delivery. Fair enough.
Currently looking to do up my garden, been pricing 2 companies both came out showed no interest, it's a reasonable size job, but I get feeling they just see me and think this is a waste of time.
At Balmoral today, went to paving company waited for rep, completely ignored twice with the second time me asking a question, him walking past to go talk to a middle age couple. Then a fencing company, know ins and outs so ask few details just get blank look, older woman comes along he turns and starts talking to her. I've potential for 40+ years of business if I'm lucky so why do I get ignored?
Anyone else with this bother? Or are you a culprit?

I never judge anyone. You never know who may place an order.

Sadly I have a face made for radio and am follically challenged, so if it's any consolation I've never been asked for age ID :ROFLMAO:

some firms do this with me, but it's usually me finding which machine/ product to buy and well, if they want to be an arsehole, that's fine, go bust like everyone else is if you can't be arsed to provide a proper none discriminatory service, plenty more people who will listen and want to fulfill my requests.

Huh. Try being a woman walking around the machinery stands at the Royal Highland Show! Invisible.

Will put it on my bucket list. (y)
I remember being ignored at Smithfield and asked to move along when I was about 17. They didn't realise that our father more or less gave his sons a free rein as soon as we left school.
I recently told someone who was running the yung uns down, "They say the young ones are the future. They're Not! They are the present!"
I love to see reps talking to my boys and they stand a better chance of getting our custom.

I'm perhaps not so young now 31 but still look youngish but I can honestly say that I've never come across this, the first thing I bought on the back of a show was a sprayer when I was 16 I must say the rep was surprised to see me turn up the following week to do a deal. I tend to go to shows on my own to do business and am reasonably scruffy I suppose don't know if this helps

Haha yeah welcome to the ag world, I'm 29 and have been ignored on many trade stands in the past until I make the first move, this usually results in a begrudged conversation from the rep, have even been asked why on earth I'd want a business card from them.

Always satisfying to casually drop into conversation that the reason I'm looking at their product is because I am one of 2 designers for brand X & Y

Enjoy it while you can, as it cuts both ways , where I used to work , they thought I was in my mid to late30', FFS, I was only 22 due to being a bit thin up top.

I bought an L200 when I was about 18, I went to Mitsubishi garage, rep was awesome couldn't do enough, went to Toyota garage the rep, said to the rep any chance I can test drive new hilux? He said "any chance you can come back when you leave school and can actually afford to buy one"

I walked out and and went back to Mitsubishi and bought top spec L200, when it came in my first journey was to the Toyota garage :D

Ive experienced this myself at Balmoral, always irritates me. At the Ag stands it always seems if they dont know you already they dont want to. Was walking round the John Deere stand last year and tried to flag down a salesman to ask some questions, nobody interested. Couldnt help thinking that if only these clowns knew that at my job we run more deeres than they sell all year!

I doubt the behaviour of those who ignore you or are disinterested when working on trade stands has much to do with respect but rather more to do with their not being very good at their jobs.
I don't know how much business is actually done on the day at these stands, others on here will have practical experience but I suspect that the purpose of the firms exhibiting is to be seen and to start to get to know potential customers. Those firms have a problem if their salesmen are making judgements about who those potential customers are based on age or gender.
My question to the OP is, why do you want their respect? You are the one in control of the cheque book!
