Out of curiosity how long do people aim to leave their grass down for, i will cut tomorrow and sunday morn, and aim to bale mid day monday onwards. Some pictures on here seam to show grass being chopped within a few hours of cutting. Do people not worry a bout sogy silage and just heave on aditive, i understand when the weather is very very catchy

Worry? Absolutely. Wet silage is the default here in this weather, even average weather for that matter, unless you make an effort to do something about it. Problem we have is grass is wet, but ground is soaking too. So every time you drive over with the tedder, your wheels are pressing grass down into wet soil/brown water, and turning dried grass back down onto wet soil. It's tough to get a good win in the conditions we have now.

I'll finish mowing Sunday am or Monday am, and start collecting with wagon. So the last cut grass will be lying at least three days. But it's still better in my mind than having a self propelled chew it into something resembling wet brewers grains.

Why are some people so inconsiderate????
Sent mowers into a 35 acre block this morning and an hour later South West Water closed the road due to a water leak until sometime next week. Thanks very much SWW 😟😟😟😟

I've walked mine today, it's embarrassing quite frankly, 30 days cut, 50 units put on next day in heavy drizzle, the proceeding pathetic amounts of rain since haven't been enough to make any bulk, if I cut today I'd struggle for 1t/acre 😢
Same here !Yet the land of grass (South Molton) is a different story!

Could I please ask what grass mixture this is? Full of diploids or what? How long has this ley been in?

Yes predominantly diploid with some tetras. Iirc it has a high proportion of Aber sugar varieties
Nothing longer than 4 year leys grown at the moment but I do wonder if grazing type leys might not suit a multicut system better.
