Silage additive , round baler

Round bale all out silage have never used additive before , have my own baler and bought a quad sprayer etc
Going to mount the quad sprayer on the baler , all I want to know is where about a should I locate the nozzle , near the rotor above the reel seems abit hazzardous to me but maybe ok ?? Before the reel ? Also how many litres additive solution per bale ? The quad sprayer holds 100 litres so I was think 1l a bale so as I wouldn’t be refilling as often , anyone any experience ? Thanks

Locate the nozzle just before the pick-up.

Our silage inoculant treats 25 tonnes of fresh weight grass per sachet therefore, you may use whatever amount of water you deem fit as long as a sachet treats 25T, simple!

As an example a forager application rate would be 1ltr of product to one tonne of grass.

I used to time how long it took to make a bale then, run the pump into a measuring jug for that length of time to calibrate it.
Put a mini sprayer boom with two nozzles spraying onto the pickup reel, worked well.

At work he got given a selmech rate controller and a tank for a try with some additive he ordered. They never asked for it back so he did alright out of it, A ball type flow rate sight on front of the baler step and an old sprayer boom with 2 nozzles as mentioned above, attached to the big tubular rail above the pickup. For bigger baling days we made a bracket that goes onto the front weights and mounted a 205 litre barrel on and pump it back to the baler tank. The original additive pump went west at tail end of last year, selmech one was silly money so he managed find one at a fraction of the price on a caravan spares website.

I think he works on a litre per bale for the actual rate.

Unsure if you can do ULV with balers like you can with forage harvesters but that works really well!!
A few of the additive companies will “hire” you applicators for the season if you use enough of their product.

Edit. He uses a big nozzle to save it blocking but because of that has to run the pressure relatively high to get it to spray and get the width across the pickup. The product is rated at 2 litres per ton but he mixes it at 3 litres to the ton because of the higher pressure. So it's doing around 2 litres per bale based on a 600kg bale.
