Silage Analysis'

Make sure you send the analysis to the same place to get comparable results. They can vary from place to place

At one stage here the silage analysis places seemed to have a war going on for the highest ME analysis in an attempt to get business. Results that were unheard of a few years earlier were now common and not much had chanaged with silage production in that short time.

Hows everyone's silage feeding out then? I'm having to feed second cut the now and its not great. Trying to look at daily milk solids instead of litres which I think are low. Just over 200, thoughts?

It is of utterly no use comparing samples from two different labs. Sorry to break that to you. You need to send them to the same lab every time. If you don't trust your advisor/rep, change them for someone you do. Otherwise why are you handing a sizeable portion of your milk cheque to them each month?:banghead:

D-value would be the number 1 priority, as Clay said, if you get something that is chock full of lignin and gone past it, you end up needing to find the requisite energy from somewhere else.

You cannot realistically influence ME or CP figures, unless you are starving your grass or something. But you can, within the mercies of the weather, affect your D value and thus overall digestibility.

I have never seen grass cut at so many different times and stages, those who have good stuff must surely be extremely lucky. Thankfully it looks like the maize will save the day.

Isnt the ME just calculated from the D value ?
