Silage Clamp Drains

We have built a new cattle building and want to put the silage clamp adjacent, using the mass concrete wall of the new building as one of the walls for the pit. However, doing this we would not be able to have a drain on the outside of this wall, as this would be in the cattle building. Has anyone managed to get the EA to agree to not having to have a drain in this scenario? We would have drains on the other walls of the clamp.

Surely the cattle building is as good as a drain? Assuming you can contain anything that’s produced inside the building including any effluent I can’t see how they would have a problem.

I am also puzzled as to the need for a drain outside the wall. The effluent will be contained within the pit to a tank. Just make sure you have adequate slope on the floor.

drains outside the wall have been required for quite some time, in case there's a leak to catch the escaping effluent and channel it to your tank. i snuck up my pit without getting any permissions and a few years later the f**kers at sepa found it during an unrelated visit, they let me off because the outside drains were all in order and there was nothing to fail it on

Can you run a concrete gulley in against the wall in your shed to tick the box. Perimeter drains are required in safo regulations. Ours is higher the pit floor level never catches anything but ticks the box.

Surely if the effluent seeped into the cattle shed it would still be collected with any run-off from it? In any case the EA need to approve it so best to contact them now than £20000 later.
