You guys can spread sh!t and all with much less regulation then we yet you have to catch all the fluid. Maybe it's because you guys tend to have wetter silage.
No problem with them here though. If you have walls you have be able to retain it (only recently) but not if you don't have walls. For storing muck you need a closed floor though. All paving is on a slight incline so little water stays on.
There is a bit of a trent going on to put a layer of chopped straw under maize to catch the effluent.

Thanks. Yeah they're bricks. You can get them for little money used or for free if you are at the right place at the right time. Very common overhere. Hardcore yards are only a thing overhere on building sites as we do not have stones in the ground.
I use a Trioliet feeding bucket with reciprocating knives like this one:
Is it a realiable machine? I used to use one of their block cutters, definitely wasn't reliable

It's not to bad. I has a few hoses burst on me, broke a sideknive. The cilinder that opens the sidedoor has a bolt connecting it to the door that breaks twice a year. The old one was controlled with cables which were horrific, now I have electric controls which is far better but the switches aren't the best. The seals on the sideknives go leaky after a few years but they are quite easy though expensive to replace. And they weap first so you don't have to replace them right there and then. The mainknive isn't wearing very good, now on my second (€500).
When it was new the wings that hold the sideknives came out which was odd. Caught in time though.
All in all a guesstimated €1 an hour running costs.
