Silage Pit Wall Liner or wall repair.

We have silage pits made from T shaped concrete panels which are 35-40 years old. The panels all have gaps between them which can let air in and effluent out. We currently line the walls with old silage sheet but it isn't that effective.

Has anyone got a plygene liner from H D Sharman? Or should I just use thicker plastic sheeting.

SEPA man suggested Quattro resin however that seems like a difficult job to get all the joints cleaned enough to get a seal with resin/ mastic.

Anybody got any good suggestions for sealing up our existing pit.

Try using a new plastic sheet for the sides. I think you can get some thicker gauge stuff that's quite good.

how do people go about sticking a sheet up the sides normally? how do people usually stretch them over for them to stay put long enough before filling the clamp? cheers

thats teh problem, posts at the top of every panel else could just fold it over no bother

This is what I do. I also tie two tyres together with baler string and hang them over the sheet in between the posts to hold the sheet tight.

Cover the top of every post in tyres or cut them off

Plygene was good 20 odd years ago, we fixed it to wooden sleeper walls with nails, worked well but it did get holes in it when the bucket got too close. Not to sure how you'd fix it to concrete though.

Find it handy when tieing side sheets up on a pit with posts above walls to scrunch some sheet round a golf ball and tie string round before tieing it up to posts, stops sheet slipping through string.
