Had 16 men here at silage to keep 2 choppers going,

Sure at least you probably only had to buy it the once with that size of squad, god help the poor team in the pit.

That looks like it will make rocket fuel silage and a lovely green stubble.
I am surprised the contractor doesn't have a four rotor rake,standard around here except for baling.Have seen a youtube vid of a six rotor working in the SW,@Beef farmer may know about it,would help reduce the fish supper bill!

There’s three rakes in that pic the far away one is a 4 rotor!

How low do you all mow your stubble? Our regrowth has been quite slow this year and I am wondering if the mowing height can have anything to do with it. Or is it just the fact that it has been unseasonably hot and dry? Normally when the grass is lifted off the field the green is already coming through, but this time it took about 5 days to see it.

I try to get on the 7 cm mark, not above 8 and certainly not under 6. My father used to say, a matchbox height.

As long as my fingers or enough to hide a toecap of your boot.

Cutting low exhausts the plant and kills tillers.

Leave more green on the stubble and regrowth will be rapid.

I always thought that nitrates were a bigger problem when the grass is wet?
