What's wheat straw making in round bales per ton out the field please?
whatever it is reckon it will pay to keep as our straw behind combine is not baling up into quantity but this last couple of days is clean and dry, trouble is we will not have enough under cover storage so will have to sheet if we keep it. a couple of years ago we did wrap some after allowing a curing period and that worked in keeping the straw clean and dry so might do some if time and we are still relatively early

It begins to look as if straw and good hay will be very short this year now.

The combines when they can go are just chopping everything as the straw hardly ever gets dry enough to bale, so they will not leave it in the swath.
No hay been made for 6 weeks now and the grass that is left to cut looks miserable!

to back you up, reckon we who have baled or going to all straw are at least 1-1/2 big bales /acre down and usually sell 4/5 wagon and drag out of the field wont be doing, will stack to ensure we have what we need. Have some hay and will try to make some more instead of wrapping haylage as we have enough from 2nd cut, time is on our side as cereal harvest done but it wont be a big quantity and will depend on the weather
