Reminds me a bit like a farmer round here a few years ago.....when wheat was rising he said “I’m not selling a single flake till it hits £200”
It got to £199 and collapsed
Yes you can be too greedySame year I offered a well known and recently deceased farmer up your way £180/ton for some spare barley he had about Christmas time. He turned me down then rang me in late July desperate to move it to make room for new crop. I gave him £85/ton. To be fair he took it on the chin and never said a thing well not to me anyway.....
Would need checking out as at a farm sale don't think your guaranteed payment if auctioneers don't get paid in market rules different but not sure on hat and strawsurely if you put it through an auction you will get paid as thats why commission is charged ,we have occassionally put a load up and never had any issues, we have occassionally done that with a spare load or 2
So whats an average year? £70 /t barley? So lets knock £50/t off that for this years hypermarket and £30 haulage so they owe you £10/tI wish the whole job would calm down next season .fair price for buyer and seller . is that to much to hope for
buyer and seller need to agree what's a fair price off the field and out of the shed . will that ever happen .I don't have a clue . I would suggest 48 to 50 and 55 to 65 . but who knowsSo whats an average year? £70 /t barley? So lets knock £50/t off that for this years hypermarket and £30 haulage so they owe you £10/t
Now sell that to the arable guys?

all I want is a constant supply at a constant price that both sides are happy with .Makes no odds to you as your margin is constant .

Any idea what reserves were?well you can't get much more open than at auction, hardly turning up at night with a trailer and a torch is it ?
the reserves in the main were more than folk would pay
time will tell
Any idea what reserves were?
Sounds like I should have come up - being quoted £115 barley delivered in.
Don’t tell me the merchants aren’t cashing in with bigger margins!
Maybe if farmers just dealt directly with other farmers and cut out the middle man
