To be fair we are talking a different market.

The very fine dust free hay for rabbits is virtually non existent in the country now, likeiwse for coarse dust free timorthy horse hay.

I live next to the A628 main road from the Arable east to the Peninnes & loads of straw coming past constantly but very few suitable for my customers. Also rubbish silage from years ago is piled up on farms all around, of no use what so ever to my customers So for suckler cows no problem, companion animals a big problem. What has tipped me over the edge is so many people wanting to buy. But as regards doing my job filling the barn with good stuff I did. My mistake has been selling too much & too cheaply (not that I want more, just to slow down the incrediable demand). I'm very tired of been sworn at for charging too much & not having enougth.

I do have great symaphy for stock farmers in the North West, I just don't know how they are coping.
Have you thought about not selling to those that swear at you? We had some right areshole customers that were rude and turn up whenever they like with no phonecalls. Glad to be rid of them, send them elsewhere and look after the nice customers

Too right. Anyone who is arrogant or rude or who just turn up expecting instant loading get politely turned away.
Most people though are fine, and many are regular customers who ring first to arrange a time for loading, which is how it should be.
Even in a year of plenty when I may be looking for some new customers I still refuse to deal with anyone who is in any way arrogant or rude.

I do agree.

But we are cash & carry as the nice customers say it is just like going to a shop. So we can't really choose the customers they just come & with some assistance help themselves out of the barn. Wrapping up in blackets or builders bags is the norm & we have scores of customers. We do split small bales down to slices & pack them in any provided packaging. sadly this year we have been infiltrated by new customers who we don't want. I don't think it is even legal for us to turn them away.

Straw £2.50 bale Hay £3.50 any price rise met with aggression. Also qualty has to be perfect. On a happier note we do ok in a more normal year.
