7 days the gates will open . Been offered more than I know what to do with now . Turned down 200 round hay at £20/bale
well when it dries up most will turn out, its so called meant to be better weather next week here at the moment its not rained for a day but its so misty and damp it just as well be raining, the grass has grown in the last week but we can't get on it with any fert

a fortnight dry and I don't think much silage will be being hauled about and demand for straw will fall dramatically

perhaps some will leave it to late to sell and miss the boat, that will STILL depend on the weather

The forecast last week was for dry now but it’s not happening.

Word has got out that we are selling silage. Only interested in helping neighbours out though, and at a realistic price. Always good to have some credits with your neighbours for the future.
I offered forage to neighbour's 3 months ago. They declined. So i sold it away.
Asked for some earlier in week and seemed surprised it was all gone :scratchhead:

I have found, increasingly so recently, that there are some people that you just cannot help. You think and hope that you might be helping them; but some are so stubborn, mean and plain stupid that it is often best to just leave them alone to get on with it.

Well spring seems like it's here and we still loading straw .so all those who said it would run out .you was wrong again

It didn't run out, precisely because prices went up, as people predicted. If the price had stayed the same, people would have used more, or not gone over to woodchip, or used rape straw, or old hay and then there would have been an actual shortage. The whole point of prices going up is that it tells users of straw to use as little as possible, or find cheaper alternatives, and encourages people with extra supplies to bring them to market. Hence why the straw doesn't run physically out. Its actually a textbook case of market forces doing exactly what they are supposed to do.

I've sold as much straw as last year and kept all my customers supplied .I had to explain to then that the price was double last year because a few guys in Stow Auction lost control if themselves
Yea but how much extra sawdust, rough hay etc have you sold for bedding?
You were telling us a few months ago to find alternatives. Suspect plenty have.

Derrick is partially correct , BUT the fly in the ointment is the power stations taking a good percentage of eastern county straw .
We're not short of straw but there will never be a glut again EVER .
