Just telling it like it is, i have bought and paid for more standing straw than i need so im not bothered what trade does. Talking the price up of delivered in straw when its not even the middle of august is premature imo, if the weather hasnt improved in a month i will agree that trade may improve.
Weather looks a bit better for next week, and better still for start of September. But if it carries on like this though, quality straw will be very scarce indeed. It ain't made in a factory outside Milton Keynes. All this talk of over supply and low prices before harvest even got underway is starting to look like rubbish. Work is backing up. Those relying on contractors to combine and bale will be getting alarmed.

Most barley and even some wheat done by now surely?
I appreciate plenty of wheat still to go though and weather not looking great.

they had a dam good run at winter barley around here in the good weather and anything I have seen or baled was a very good crop
A fair bit of wheat done as well before the rain a few days ago and again some heavy crops around

All nearly done here. This weeks problem is that no boats at Yarmouth for the wheat, so smaller producers and tenants without proper storage are running out of places to push it in. The estate are all done and wrapped up, but they have 3x£150K dryers. The straw looks good from what I have seen, we have had some rain in the last three weeks, but not that much.

Straw been baled right left and centre locally to us now . A shortage is not gonna happen and straw could be same next March as it is today , I can’t see either the demand or money to pay big money (£70+)

I think it would be lack of money as much as anything that will hold the price down ,I think most folk would sell up before paying last winters prices again.
