Got a pit of 1st cut silage, approx 500 ton. The guy that has bought the farm is taking it on. What would it be worth this year. I was thinking in the region of £15 a ton.

Some top grade stuff near Wincanton made £22 at Auction 2 weeks ago . Depends where you are but South of Midlands trade is dead

we are buyers, the organic hay never sold did I, was told he wanted last years price. Prices have to be sensible though, but the longer they refuse to sell, the greater the amount on the mkt. We are about 1 bale silage a day short, so we are in no hurry.

Not sure . I left when the knocked it down for £22/bale about £85/ton . Dont know what the reserve was . That was Cooper and Tanners

It will never be as cheap again will it . For all sorts of reasons

Yes, I had that trouble when I went to buy hay locally, they were looking for what they got that year. We started at 26/bale any got down to 15/bale after I showed him the prices in Farmers Guardian.

Yes but it's good stuff and just the other side of the village so delivery was cheap and convenient. Hopefully I'll get first offer next time.

I've rung or text 6 who like me would normally have gone and none did !!!

Reports up, prices for what sold were good but when it then states that clearances rates were 26%hay, 31%silage/haylage 20%straw it paints the picture of reserves set way above market demand/value. Round hay av £14.27 before commision
