Went from Hereford to Salisbury a few days ago
and a very mixed bag of crops .
Was actually surprised with the amount of spring cropping .

In the north no threats they sold them yesterday

A week/ 10 days ago I went around some wheat in different area. Most of it was 9 inch to a foot tall. It might improve with the rain but we will have to see. The barns are empty. The straw cant be for nothing this time.

So when was straw last "for nothing"?

Back in the 70's they would give it to you.
Good job for the arable farmer that straw isn't still at 70's prices

I can remember paying £14 a tonne for wheat in midi hesstons

I’m amazed arable lads concentrate on grain , I’d be growing straw and treating grain as a by product ,

So now £140 it’s x 10
A bullock then £600 x 10 makes him £6000 now

These high prices are all very well but are the margins any better?? Lamb goes up, food goes up! Corn goes up, fert goes up, diesel up, spray up etc etc... They get it back off you one way or another

Yes that’s very true. This year is a good example of that all inputs are up combined with a long winter wet backend and poor spring.
It is nice to see something better coming in though, if there’s nowt coming in you are buggered to start with

Agreed but it would nice to be allowed more proffit once in while, currently I fear all that has happening is the risk has doubled , but as you say could be worse but churning over hundreds thousands for no more net gets boring .

I use half of it myself that's why I suggest renting arable land to you .
