I don't get this feeding everything straw, would think its to expensive to feed, but each to their own I spose
it's much better for calves, than hay. Hay is so variable a product, nutritionally, it can really upset calf performance.
straw in diet feeder rations, it would seem sensible to include scratch factor, from hay, it actually has some feed value, whereas straw is neutral, but the 'experts' disagree.

Tbf, your not the typical arable farmer🤣
Yeah, I know, I get what you're saying, but......
It's the same on the hay & straw FB page...... " I'm not paying xxxxx for straw, I'd rather sell the cows !!! ". Then you look on their profile page and spot 3 new JD's , new telehandler, and new 28' Bailey trailer parked in the yard....WTF.

Grass is always greener.

£20-£25 per bale
With the right baler that could be £33/t or £50/acre at 1.5t acre of straw.
£8.5/t baling
£10/t to get onto lorry
£30/t to move it is £83/t delivered to farm

Back of envelope calculation

Don’t know how much they weigh 5300 but my guess

1.5 ton straw acre
3 bales @ 500kg each
£20 a bale is £60 an acre worst case
No baling charge
No stacking
