Brightwells online is doing ok so far .
All dependant on where it is
These online timed auctions see a flurry of bids in the last few hours, trouble is you dont know if your bidding against the vendor but you just have to bid to what you think its worth. Sunderlands sale will have been a usefull guide to people.
Looks like round bale silage will cost atleast £1 more /bale this year to make with the wrap increase alone

Had a bloke from Cheshire ring me cos he tried for 20 mins to log on but couldn't and tried the 2 mobile numbers on the catalogue but no answer. He had been down the day before to look at some of the lots .

It is a faff, he should have viewed it on sale day and come to the sale in person.

They originally wanted 5k deposit up front the same as the machinery sales but I kicked up quite a stink about it last year and they eventually agreed to drop it to 500 just for the fodder sale .
They are getting the better prices though!
but how much commission is online to auction

Utter pee take wanting a deposit for a fodder sale!

Buyers cannot remove the fodder anyway untill payment has cleared and vendors informed.

They may be getting okay prices but if online people who are watching the sale and see a lot that is cheaper and local will be prevented from bidding unless they have paid a deposit.

I would love to know the logic for a deposit for a fodder sale and indeed any type of auction!

I agree but unfortunatly not everybody will stand by their winning bid , easier to keep them honest if your holding funds i suppose.

Surely the £500 is refundable if nothing bought..If you genuinely want fodder you'll pay the £500 and taken off what you buy🤷🏻‍♂️..I can't say I blame the auctioneers a few years ago I went to a one off fodder auction sale in my area I bought one local lot of haylage off a farmer I knew for £22 a bale..A local well known "character" who's one of them constantly going bankrupt and starting up again decided to become a farmer..He never bid on any of the local farmers bales and bought bales some 30 or 40 miles away for £29 a bale and when the auctioneer asked how many he wanted he goes "I'll take the lot" some 600 bales of round haylage😳 I thought to myself there's something not right there he never bid against me or any of the other lots..I was right turns out he removed all the bales and auctioneers never got paid but auctioneers had to pay the vendor

Quite a sight at sunderlands recent auction when a genuine buyer/farmer bought 1 lot of 50 straw bales and then was asked how many other option lots of 50 he wanted. I will take the remaining 15 lots came the reply. 800 Bales! Auction doesnt take long when there buying like that. 12k

Aslong as he pays then its all good..I've never been a fan of them asking how many lots do you want...I've seen it so many times at farm sales the first lot isn't in the best of nick say farm gates, sheep or whatever yet the ones further on are better ones so a farmer holds back from the first lot hoping he'll get to bid on the ones he wants yet the buyers just bought it all🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
