Silage / Straw / Hay Price Tracker

Round bale hay/silage around £14/15 bale ex farm

Round bale barley straw £16 bale

Ex farm above.

Barley straw circa £78/80t delivered.

Hell of a lot of straw on lorry's at the market unsold and what was sold mostly went to farmers that are keeping sheds full instead of buying off the field next summer!

200 bales of 6 string wheat straw unsold just down the road from you.
Sheep and beef farmers got a bit of spare cash then.

Some silage as low as £8 a bale, round 4' hay around £12 to £15 , 80x90 x7' hay around £18 to £22
80x90 x8' wheat straw around the £18 didn't stay long as lots wasn't getting sold . Trouble was Gregg, the auctioneer, didn't know what he was selling .Mike Evans used to visit every lot prior to the sale and he would grade it in his notebook and he knew what he was selling. Gregg doesn't bother and it showed .

Only stayed until my lots were sold but from what I saw hay and silage struggled unless it was good quality. Was pleased with our sale of OSR stalks and wheat straw until a friend showed me his prices as we walked out.Same sized bales but £4/bale more !!!

What did lot 2or 3 make ,wrapped haylage?cheers

now is the time to buy hay if you have stock on. People won’t be bagging hard this year so next winter will likely be a different story again.

thats terrible. How can he think that is right. The only way he could value it for the customer is to see it. He would then know if it was worth entering for the reserve wanted etc.
