That sounds about right to me? I've been offered barely in big square for £90 a tonne.
I honestly thought I was going mad. Some of the crops in Cumbria I’ve seen look short but ok for the time of year. Other places further east I’ve been told are bad. A lot of the straw in Cumbria is spoken for every year I do get some though. I’ve never bought much straw at this time of year before other than to bed cattle or make grains pit walls.
Never to fill sheds.
Ive been told at harvest it will likely start with a 9 or a 10 but it could be all talk. I don’t know

We use straw all year round for the calves, our price is out of a shed I suspect as there ain't much arable around our neck of the woods!

One thing I've cotton on to on this forum is that the arable boys like to talk the price up and the livestock boys like to talk the job down! It's just a dance we all love to promenade to! ?

Will this rain help the crops or has the drought damaged it beyond repair, I honestly don't know. But I think your doing the correct thing. (especially at that price!!)

My old man has about 150 acre of straw in cumbria too sell, all big crops and he said he couldn’t give it away last year so if folk won’t pay for it this year he’s just gonna chop the lot he’s not messing around waiting for balers to turn up while the straw gets wet and puts his drilling date back again

I’m sure your father will be able to shift it easily this time!

If you need any in the cockermouth area let me know [emoji6]
Ok I will let you know how we are fixed. I have a regular man supplies me in the Cumbrian end but it’s always good to have another contact. Thank you. There’s not usually much I hear of spare over that side as it’s more of a livestock area. A lot of straw is moved from the east over there onto farms.

Yeah lots of straw comes in from the north east mega cheap my dad says he can’t bale it himself and sell it for what folk bring it in on wagons for from the north east .. probably only hand full of arable farmers on that part the west coast mostly dairy and sheep men

They have been collecting from us I’d say approx 10 years. Drivers seem a good bunch. Raymond’s son? He’s been down a couple of times with a driver.

No Raymond’s brothers son he runs the workshops for them.. majority of Lawson drivers have some sort of farming connection so all fairly switched on when it comes too straw work
