Advertised my hay and haylage on FB , with the strap line , it’ll be cheaper than buying fertiliser !
Sold out within a week . 360 square bales .
Had many more enquiries and could’ve sold the hay many times over .
Even one regular who originally said he’d made 150 more of his own, hadn’t realised the price of fertiliser and decided he’d have 100 of mine and save some if his for next year.

nothing wrong, in looking forward to next year. I look at our fodder stocks, and have a job to think we are nearly into dec, just not used as much, as we normally would.

But, we will buy hay, if the price is right, you are 500% correct, in saying, it's cheaper than fert.

What will happen after next year, l really don't see fert going much, or not, under £400 ton. And that really is going to shake things up, as in lower production of ag product, not only here, but globally, as well. Could well be, that the rise in value, of our product, is such, that we can afford dearer fert, and fuel, and repairs, and just about everything we buy. But, higher food costs, will be fought hard, by guv, and processors.

But something, somewhere along the line, has to change, most farmers cannot absorb the relentless rise in input costs, the slack, has long gone. The traditional weapon, used by guvs, was/is subsidies, our guv, in it's wisdom, has removed them from food, to the environment, and l am absolutely certain, they cannot afford to pay for both.

In the coming battle, between feeding mankind, and climate change, killing us off, food will always win, it's needed every single day, while climate change, is in the future. Whether that is right, or wrong, it is short term, like now, to something that may occur, in the future.

Was it not cheap at Nick Champions sale , to much about and no demand , may pick up in the new year as farmers look to stock up with straw
Tons of straw in the area and not much of it been used yet plus acres upon acres of corn planted so straw trade isnt going to be good at all this winter. Fodder trade would be dire to if it wasnt for high fert prices which will put a bottom in fodder trade later on i expect. Most have saved a months fodder already which will impact prices too. Be interesting if pressure mounts on big fert firms when they realise thousands of tons isnt being bought come spring .

Not so sure at current prices, lost count of those that have told me they will either use less, cut stock levels, buy fodder, utilise slurry , buy poultry litter etc. Thousands upon thousands less tons of fert will be ordered which will impact lorry firms and merchants.
Hasn't that trade already gone though and will not come back or extra needed in the spring

You have lost me, i doubt arable men will cut fert much with corn where it is and with the barns full of straw now and acres planted for next year in perfect conditions i would say straw trade will be poor for 2+ yrs unless we have an extreme weather event next harvest. Last winters straw trade only comes around about every 20 yrs

no you missed the point , i dont think n will be avaiable in the spring in the quantities that are needed. +it was quoted on here a few weeks ago that a lot of big estates had bought none. abig stack at the docks might look a lot but itd go know where.
