What are folk being quoted for old season wheat straw (eating quality) I’ve been on £70 all winter with the odd load out of the auction in the £60’s. Fuel gone up since Christmas and it’s summer nearly so I thought £80’s for good wheat was alright? I can’t see it being below that this next winter… won’t cover the fuel too shift it.

I will add that my usual supplier has run out. Very rare he lasts past mid April with straw. Hence I’ve been in the auction for it

currently we have about a months winter rate usage in stacks which is about normal other than a couple of load sold to go ontop of silage, usually we bale most wheat barley and osr. This year due to the high cost of fert we plan on chopping anything that will be mucked and thus going further( more acres) with the muck than usual . Our usual behind combine buyers will be asked to commit before the combine rolls as the cost of the fert to replace the nutrients lost due to removing straw is now a more important consideration. We will still bale enough to supply our post november regular customers plus a bit but are unlikely to bale speculatively as the cost of chopping is negligible against the cost of time labour diesel nutrient replacement and the buggeration of getting paid. We may but only may put a field or two of offlying land into the straw auction but it will carry a reserve. This plan is not set in stone but its where we are thinking atm

I think down here they will be at best stand on if not much less than last year but we will see!

Cannot see standing straw being that dear given current delivered in prices with many summer buyers already buying straw delivered in now as its cheap.
buy it while you can i dont blame anybodie but the cost of putting it together has risen considerably as has P & K chopping has never made more sense, for us anyway.

Any knowledge of the cost of getting Straw to where livestock farms need it. Lets say 250 miles from me just north of London.
Still have a thousand 120*90 that average 520 Kgs. 120 odd Barley rest wheat. Would like to shift before its time to bale this harvests Straw, or like so many round here will engage the chopper. Don't really want to do that as its a resource I fear may be needed by some.

£700 I’ve been quoted for that distance but that’s back load price it will be more if there’s nothing down to you or nothing back depending where the wagon is from
