Standing straw sales around here are huge .....and fantastic crops ! .......I'm not talking it down ......I just can't see it being up 🙂🙂
When are they holding those sales?

GTH at Sedge have their sales over the next two nights!

Have to say Wheat straw does not look that tall/ thick in any of the crops i have walked and normally in these fields the wheat straw would be very high/ thick.

WB is looking exceptional and the best in a generation!

SB looks good all things considered but as it has been under so much stress the straw may be very brittle when cut.

drop the chopper , turned the knives on ours yesterday. can hear it humming now!
Ha ha if its humming now the bearings will be burnt out by the time you drive the combine into the first field:ROFLMAO:

I think there will be some serious demand for barley straw next winter unless we get some very heave and prolonged rain within the next two months as people will be using that to ekk out forage supplies unless we get the above.

I know it's a job to see on a photo but both those fields the wheat are 3'"6 plus high and good thick crops .

Is fodder really that short in Devon ?
Huge crops here even fields without fertiliser.

I've turned cattle into some grass cos I can't see it's worth mowing

Would be some very good first cut up here in Yorkshire but anything on more marginal and lighter land is suffering now. Hardly any rain in last 3 months. Crops look ok at the moment but will be losing some potential now.

If we don’t get a bit of decent moisture very soon there won’t be much 3rd cut around here. Mate was saying yesterday that his spring barley is getting desperate now. But he’s on the driest land I know

Seems a funny scenario this year up to now as far as fodder goes. People are generally de stocking to some degree have many have half of last years silage as a carry over some have two years worth crops look good generally and it would appear there will be no shortage if this carry’s on. At the same time the sellers are talking the price up and getting it too at the moment anyway.

where the ground has good cover, wheat, barley, and maize, things are fine. Its where there isn't cover, as in grazing grass, things are pretty dire, we are quite exposed, and its the hot wind, that is just sucking the moisture out of the ground, and there's not a lot we can do, to beat that.
fodder stocks are fine, its just the grazing that's fudged,

We haven’t touched anything with a topper. Looks a straggly mess but is growing well underneath. Some have been out with flail topper over last fortnight and killed it all off.
Our kid flailed 3 pieces last week, odd weeds, rushes and stalk grass. Spread them with muck Friday. I’ve been hoping like hell it would rain to set it all off again!
