We used to wrap about 15 to 20thousand bales annually and have never got more than 30 bales (4 layers) pet roll, over a wide range of wrappers.Struggle to get 26 27 out of 4 layers here, and 21 max on 6. How you manage the 32?

22upm instead of 25 so to put same thickness on you nearly have to put another layer on each bale making it actually do less bales than a 1500m rollThere is wrap now that has an extra 150m on a roll, (1650m total) gets an extra 2or 3 bales a roll more.(can’t remember if it’s 2 or 3)
Makes bit of extra diesel turning hay look very cheap.
That's the first time anyone has used the words 'diesel' and 'cheap' in the same sentance for a while
Price of diesel, fert and plastic, we'll be going back to meadow fescues and cocksfoot tooMight be looking for a stooking team and a couple of horses for the dray at this rate

I’m going to cut the cattle numbers down, therefore should reduce a lot of the high end inputs, but that’s just my thinkingOn a serious note though, I think there'll be a few look at cutting stocking rates for a year or two. Gets to a point where you can only maximise out put and reduce costs so much. Arable men are crying about fert price for coming season, but diesel, plastic, wheat price etc. are going to hit livestock farmers hardest in the immediate term.
Fixed costs stay same, variable costs only that alter.I’m going to cut the cattle numbers down, therefore should reduce a lot of the high end inputs, but that’s just my thinking
I have plenty of sheep, for me the cattle aren’t my main enterprise.Fixed costs stay same, variable costs only that alter.
I had plenty yesterday too, 6 in my silage grass white f@%$ing liceI have plenty of sheep, for me the cattle aren’t my main enterprise.
Who's that then? Next to you is next to meHerd of suckler cows next to me booked in for dispersal end of month , been a herd of suckler on the farm for 80 year , farmers are getting old and sheds machines getting old values are gettimg high but net proffiits about non existent = more and more herds will go ! High prices low proffits accelerate the demise of the National suckler herd, proffit ability is desperately needed On todays ways etc etc i Think it might be hard .
I pm youWho's that then? Next to you is next to me
Will make those kiwi x dairy calves have some value?Reduction in breeding stock will only increase the issue of high food prices. My prediction is the government are about to get a rude awakening and a fu**ing big one at that!
we do 1 big late cut of mature haylage as" stay alive/maintenance" dry cow feed ,would moving up 4ft to 4 ft 6"Looking at upgrading baler so we can get more into bale , lower cost wrap and net costs per kg material entitled.
Bale silage that's good enough for milkers to hay/haylage for y/s dry cows.we do 1 big late cut of mature haylage as" stay alive/maintenance" dry cow feed ,would moving up 4ft to 4 ft 6"
mean significantly less wrap used ?
No sheds so hay not really an option unless say 6 ft bales
