Simon Reeve : The Americas.

absolutely brilliant been reading about the problems of water table years ago. When rich people live in the desert there is a lot of demand for water. Pesticide run off has been known for decades its very bad in the states.

I didn't see all the program but there was certainly a slight tone of farmer bashing in some of what I did watch... There are issues to be raised regards to food production methods, irrigation water and pesticide use and the impact it has but when urban Jo public sees a programmes that portray "farmers" and "farming" in a bad light it undermines all of us, to average Jo farmers are farmers. There is a constant drip, drip of anti farmer material in the media, just like for decades there was a constant drip, drip of anti EU messages.

It goes to point out that food production systems world wide are unsustainable.
You and I can infer that. Jo public just infers that farmers are recklessly damaging the environment in the name of profit. :banghead: Most food production systems are unsustainable, water consumption in many parts of the world is at unsustainable levels, fossil fuel demands are unsustainable, the human population on this planet is unsustainable... Unsustainability inevitably leads to instability, war and death.

Was I the only one to notice it was announced the migrants were picking sugar beet for sugar production only for them to be picking, topping and tailing turnips. :scratchhead::LOL:
Yes I was scratching my head, thought it odd harvesting sugar beet by hand and then odder when I saw the sugar beet... :ROFLMAO: also I note that if you or I employed illegal, undocumented migrates on our farms we would get locked up but in the US it seems just fine...

Thats what i thought they looked like, round and purple:unsure: and they were using dagging shears ... not a knife :scratchhead: .
Nothing wrong with hand pulling, but as a mentioned above ... why not use a harvester... ? Bit behind the times....
Couldnt get the locals to pull them either though could they...;)
