You mean something like these, however, point of importance: If you do not know how to use the dials etc, then I would definitely advise against proding things into circuitry, as they can bite hard. If in doubt - stay out, especially with >110v.

And the above digital display:

The multi meter is ver simple to use also

I have the last one that I use occasionally, prefer my fluke multi meter though.................................................

If you get a fluke voltage tester do not buy the cheapest one (as I did) as all it uses is light up LEDs to indicate if there is continuity and if so what voltage there is present- you need to be paying attention as to which light is lit up if you get my gist, the next model up (T110?) uses a digital display which clearly indicates what you have.

Don't use cheap electrical tools and certainly not those screwdriver with a bulb in it things. 50 volts is enough to poke through a human body. I've been electrocuted by the mains before and it was not nice.

To the best of my knowledge, the above meters will not load a circuit. So it looks perfect until you ask it to supply to a load, then it becomes faulty. Many many hours head scratching caused by this weakness. So if its low voltage use a decent size bulb.
