SimTech Aitchison Drills

We have just drilled some overseeding mix into an old ley (York fog predominately) having limed it and fed with some 0:20:30. Grass is just showing the tips from the slots. Hoping for some advice as to when I can load it up with nitrogen? It’s been left hungry to suppress the old grasses that are still lazy at the moment.
Well hopefully someone knowledgeable will answer but in their absence I would guess at giving it a tickle with about a bag an acre before it rains next but drive carefully especially when turning tho ;)

P.s. did you roll or harrow after drilling or just leave as the drill finish ?

Left it unrolled. We drilled a little deeper than I would have liked but some areas were a little undulating and I was sceptical that we would get much rain!! It’s a little early, the tractor wheels will just kill anything it rolls.

When do seedlings look forwards to a poke of N in general? Going to be silage so if it was established grass it would see up to 150kg 33.5% an acre (370kg a hectare?)....total product.

They would have it in the seedbed pre sowing but of course this situation is different.
Me I dont add much at all anyway before or after as I like to help the clover i always put in to give it room / not be smothered from the start.

But for this wait until theres enough leaves / rooting to cope with being .be fuelled up ..then .stick some on ...The new seed and type should respond better to it than Yorkshire dog when its established enough anyway so that shouldnt smother the new .might helping if theres a pretty dry summer as well

I guess.

I'm interested because I have a contract that will need same as you've done....no glypho drill overseed will be more appropriate than a harrow one Im thinking

Yorkshire dog :scratchhead:

I will update hopefully. We added two kilos of red and white clover to a DLF overseeding mix which in turn had a couple of kilos bottom grass added to lengthen it’s lifespan, time will tell.

How did it do this year??

ive been asleep since then, I haven't a clue what you're on about!! ;)
I did have to rack my brain a little bit I'll admit.
OK, so one field that had been a failure for two years (rabbits mainly, roadside and goat farmer on the other side, someone's kitchen window in line with the best shots) grew like stink. Thought the dry weather would finish it but it really took off, might have something to do with the massive amount of fym it got. NVZ rule busting amount.
The one that was full of Yorkshire fog got some 8-25-25 or maybe 0-20-30 not sure now and slowly got started but it was too dry and probably not enough P and K for a good effort. Made a good hay cut off both but it seems the York fog might have crowded the new seeds out, hard graze with sheep this winter and see what pops out.
