Single rotor rake

Hi all
I’m looking to update some of my elderly silage gear.
At present I mow with a 8ft krone which needs new skids and a seal replaced on the bed, and rake 2 into 1 with my lely super zip which is on its last legs and sounds like a bag of hammers when set away!
I’m looking at a new 9ft Krone and a swadro 42 2nd hand single rotor rake, funds are limited so how effective will it be at raking 2 9ft rows or would it be just turning one on top of the other without moving the bottom 1? Anyone using this sort of set up with any advice/tips or recommendations of other machines.

Yeah, the wider you go the less control you have. Fields need to be very flat for the rake to work properly.

Twin rotor is better or you have to move both rows with a single rotor to get the bottom dried

Depends how wide the single rotor is, good thing with a single rotor if you have thin crop you can do it in bouts and pull a few rows together, have a KV 1 here and works well makes a very clean tidy job

Op mentioned a Swadro 42, which would be 4,2m in diameter. We've a Swadro 38 and find that a bit too wide and way too small for preparing 1000+ acres per year.

An Gof I agree with u!! Sometimes u just feel like throwing up when u read some of the stuff on here!! For a 1000 acres I would have 2 or three large rakes on really large Fendts for good measure!

You get some decent looking mounted twin rotor rakes I know pottinger do one not sure who else.

I tried a rotonde it was fine in dry crop but if something got really wet it wouldn't lift it clean and roll it over to dry it out like a proper rake does

You'll need a fairly small twin rotor to get 2 9ft rows

2010 Pottinger 4.2m single rake here has been faultless. I'd have another.

Look out for a Claas 2600 twin rake. Life’s too short to be faffing with a single rotor rake. Once you try a twin rake you will never look back.

We’ve a 9ft mower and put 3 swaths together with a Krone 4.61/13 so I should think it would be doable

That’s what I’m doing now with the lely super zip 380,

We get on very well with a lely rotonde. Better than the little single rotor kuhn rake we used to use and it's just the right size to move both mower swaths onto the fresh ground in between them.
