Sir Keir Starmer...

The new Labour Party leader, the 'socialist' Sir Keir Starmer yesterday, in his first words as Labour leader, said that he wouldn't oppose the Government for opposition's sake and that he'd only offer constructive criticism... well, it didn't last long.

Already he's saying how awful the Government's handling of things has been - I defy anyone to find anything form Sir Keir that told us what the right things to do were at any time before they needed to be done and it was bleeding obvious to everyone. He hasn't said a public word for weeks, and now he has gone back on his own commitments in less than 24hrs.

If this is what we can expect from him as a national 'leader' there will not be a credible opposition in this country at any time in the foreseeable future; what a worthless prig he is, and a demonstrable liar too.

Now he's elected and is the Official Opposition, what do you expect him to do? He SHOULD be holding Government to account

He has, though, accepted an offer to become engaged with the government on crisis talks.
Corbyn didn’t even do that

Yes the Opposition should hold the Government to account, find any post of mine anywhere that says anything other that- right-winger though I am, I have been longing for a credible opposition for our democracy's sake.

But he is not doing that by second-guessing them now, everyone can say what should have been done after the event, but during a crisis it achieves nothing.

That will be for an enquiry once the dust has settled, while for now, to do so may reduce public confidence in the authorities and will make him look like a political point-scorer.

As I've written elsewhere, criticising from the side-lines is a political luxury - and most recognise it as such.

What else do you expect? politicians are just “wired up” differently when it cones to government matters.

Just shows how reporting priorities have changed, his election was a mere foot note in the news.

Bad job criticising the government for the sake of it. The organisation of testing has been a poor job but we won't know how they've done until after the event. If London has peaked, then it appears we will avoid the terrible situation in Italy, as seen on Sky news documentary last night:(

Personally I think he’ll do ok and hopefully provide a credible opposition to Blustering Boris (who I read is in a bad way with the virus so I’ll cut him some slack) once he’s sorted out Momentum and brought the good guys back on to Labours front bench.
Could be another populist like Blair if he plays his hand right.
The virus will make or break the current administration... never mind Brexit
