six and out

As some may know I go metal detecting. :giggle:
It is about the most socially distanced hobby/event you can have.
On Sunday we have 30 local folk spread over 90 acres of cultivated mud.
We have a risk assessment, its been authorised by the police, the borough council and we are "Covid Secure".
Got the hand sanitiser, masks etc. but, as we are defined as "amateur" by the DCMS, we are only allowed 6 from Monday.
If we were a registered business then we could have as many as we wish from anywhere in the country.

Bonkers.
At least you have a ruling, as far as I'm aware shooting doesn't.

Likely we will find out today, 12:30pm if we are going to follow or not. Depends on what the Welsh gov feel is the right course of action re: Caerphilly and Merthyr.

As the Scots have followed already, it would be surprising if Greyford didn't as well. Everything would be a lot easier to follow if every country followed the same rules imo.

Yes it would in some ways. I think the biggest issue is when it comes to crossing borders, etc. The differences in rules don't make it in front of some people so they assume everyone is the same and it can be difficult for people to react.

Seems par for the course with the government. Unfortunately all this U turning means that people have lost faith and I reckon they will stick two fingers up and carry on as they would normally - after all, who is going to police all this?

..........and that is the attitude that has got us where we are !!

If we are to avoid a full lock-down, we need to follow the recommendations, I agree some are confusing, and if you are not clear, then air on the side of caution, not the other way.

In general everyone is fed-up, however the efforts by the Government to stop the economy tanking, and some who choose to ignore the rules is causing a spike in the infection rate, so, what are they supposed to do ???

It is clear, it is a very fine line living with a Virus, and trying to get kids to school, businesses operating and avoiding a full lock-down again, we all need to do our bit.

Apart from the all the shoots that will go bust as they spent lot of money upfront.
We run a small shoot and no days shooting could put us in huge debt

With all due respect, with a National Pandemic, and the likely-hood of a second spike, why did you not just leave it for a year ?

Around here some have released birds, some have parked it until next year. Putting aside the pandemic, leaving a shoot dormant for a season is probably a good move anyway, and although forced by Covid, it could be a positive.

Cases are rising because pubs and restarants etc are open, and large swathes of the population are "fed up now, and wanna go back to normal", so have duly been going their own sweet way.... Not from mask wearing, although I agree, they act as a mind blank for many, including myself at times as I wear one so rarely.

Cases are also rising because we are testing more and the tests are flawed anyway. Take Caerphilly - talk of a local lockdown so people all rush to get tested and low and behold they find more cases.

It’s not quite as straightforward as that. Rent and Keepers wages to pay whatever. I’m paid up for two syndicates ........ and wondering what will happen.

I am in the same position, we have rent and a keeper to pay, however in our view the risks to go ahead this year were to high. Granted this decision was taken in April as some of the members were in the at risk age group and some had to shield due to health issues, we reviewed again in July and stuck with our earlier decision. However, in hindsight, I'm happy with what we decided, as the worst case scenario was rearing and feeding several thousand birds, and leaving them to to wander and potentially damage crops and annoy locals and landowners. Our first loss (land rent and keeper) was our best loss v the cost of poults/feed/repairs etc with the risk of shooting being banned or another lock-down due to a second spike.

You'd expect death rates to lag behind new cases because it doesn't kill people instantly.

The only positive (if their is one) is Italy also has a spike but deaths remain relatively flat, however Spain has a much bigger spike and has recorded daily infections similar to the height in March, but deaths are also staring to creep up accordingly.

They seem to bubbling along at about 40 ish -its still pretty flat. I don't see deaths anywhere near the March deaths for Spain.

Most people don't even know they've had it. Some killer disease for the healthy isn't it?
And plenty do - it's quite staggering the way that it has affected some (very "healthy") people I know.
For example: PT mate of mine, bit older than me, think he's 41, ex light middleweight, sickeningly fit - got COVID in March, still can barely climb a flight of stairs.

Death rate isn't everything.

Over 200 in the last 4 days......

Nowhere near March, but creeping up.

Death rate isn't everything and I agree for some it is a very serious disease which shows the importance of keeping distance etc. But we locked down for 20 weeks and naturally the virus hasn't gone away and it isn't going to.

Cases don't really mean a lot either, but death rates are probably the most reliable indicator but even then they need to be in perspective depending on age/ comorbidities.

More people are dying of pneumonia than covid.
