Wouldn't it be great though if in a few years it was solicitors and lawyers grumbling at how they were having to work 4 hours to pay for the hourly rate of having their septic tank emptied? "Plus travel? Plus disposal?? I'm going to have to start doing it myself I can't afford it anymore, these manual jobs are a licence to print money!"

A lad my dad knows quite well has just stopped work with the National Trust. He says it was a great job, doddered about fixing old buildings, if a rotten window frame was spotted that piece would had to be cut out and the same type of wood with same grain found and placed in and all made good.

It didn't matter how long the work took, so long as stuff was happening it was all good.

Not sure what the wages were but the work suited him really well.

Sometimes it's not all about the money.

Solicitor that I knew used to drive to Bristol every day, leave home at 7 am get back at 8 pm
He was a miserable canute so was his wife!

Hs2 wanted tractor drivers last year £14/hr and i bet you would sat doing nothing most of the time.

There now offering £17 / hr for tractor drivers, and they have tractors parked up, due to lack of drivers

Are factory/warehousing jobs not 6am-2pm, 8 hour shifts any more?
Would fit in ok with having to get the kids after school.
I'm probably going to go down that road shortly but a lot of factories in this area are 12 hour shifts, 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off so not that handy.

No. 12hrs, 4n4 is fine. The ones that do 6:2 seem to want you to swap shifts so you then do the 2:10 etc.

Not saying it's a deal-breaker but hours is higher priority than ££££ so I'll keep looking for a bit.

Why don’t you become a farm consultant, plenty will be needed to fill in these SFI forms shortly

I did consider becoming a mediator. Always useful to get someone in to sit between a few folk and help them talk things through. So much family farming is harmed by lack of talking / writing it all on the back of an envelope. I see qualifications as less important than empathy and patience.

Last time I drove a tractor on site, it was a road job (A50) the tractor driver towed a bowser, filled all stationary pumps and mobile plant with diesel then either ran a Hiab trailer moving materials round site or a tanker moving water round.
It was an awful job, glad I was only filling in for someone for a week.
Is it self employed?

I gave up doing shift work, too hard to juggle when you have young kids.
Rotating shifts is also one of the worst things you can do health wise. In this crazy H&S world we live, its the one thing that's totally ignored, despite all the medical reports that come out stating its a factor in all kinds of medical problems.

So what do you do on the 360 days its not dusty in the UK?
Must be a reason no ones doing it. Always is.

The water is for road consolidation more so than dust suppression.
