can any one tell me how the sale went yesterday please. First real sale of ncm lambs of the season.
runners for early 80s is still madness.greythundercloud has the best idea.I had a look down for 10 minutes, you could get decent runners for early eighties i'd say. General consensus seemed to be trade was better than expected. I wasn't there last year so can't really compare directly, though compared to hawes last year, you could get reasonable lambs for less money, down to early seventies for white faces whereas at hawes last year £88 seemed to be the floor in the market. It amazes me how much extra buyers will pay for fancy clipper work, i reckon it's worth at least £10 a head!
I will be making my annual trip although not buying many this year.Anyone at hawes Monday Tuesday?
My uncles have been selling mule wethers fat for £81 to £85 for the last month, so i'd say notrunners for early 80s is still madness.greythundercloud has the best idea.
They wont be "runner" size, but the very best exceptional ones of the breed. My uncles have been selling mule wethers fat for £81 to £85 for the last month, so i'd say not
Over half the wethers have gone so we're hardly talking about a few exceptional animals (and that's from 1200 to 1800ft with no creep before anyone starts, born mid march onwards). The gimmer lambs are the same size, remember this is the first draw sale for gimmer lambs, so generally the better end of lambs, they're only really a tenner over fat i'd say which is no more than fair, in my far from humble opinion. They wont be "runner" size, but the very best exceptional ones of the breed.
They will be the very best in the mule world, and i guess they will have been breeding them for a long time.Over half the wethers have gone so we're hardly talking about a few exceptional animals (and that's from 1200 to 1800ft with no creep before anyone starts, born mid march onwards). It's all about status, being the big noise in the sheep farming community, either selling the dear breeding stock or perversely buying the expensive pens. While there is a sub cheque this kind of self indulgence will continue I'm afraid.A lot of big single lambs at those first sales, there will be plenty of wee gimmering lambs to come, what's the big attraction with all those dressed lambs, in a few months time that bloom will have washed of and the wool grown around there necks, also do these dark faced sheep have more milk than one with whiter faces? I very much dought it, they will have to teats just like the others, l bought some nice gimmering lambs at Stirling on Monday for 55, they are smart, but no one there to bid them up, they have a year to grow. I wish there had been a few more. But l will pick more up over the next few weeks.
The attraction isn't that they're dressed , it's that they're big enough to go to the tup this year.A lot of big single lambs at those first sales, there will be plenty of wee gimmering lambs to come, what's the big attraction with all those dressed lambs, .
