Sky HD+ box

right this q is not a sky bashing thread, although the shysters have stitched up my neighbour!
Does anyone know a simple way to retrieve the recorded content of a sky HD+ plus box.
My rather elderly farmer neighbour has been talked into upgrading to a Sky Cube and now finds he cannot retrieve the recordings he made on his old box. The box still works in as much as turns on and you get the regular screen, but if you go to planner it tells you it is still initialising, however long you leave it
Any help much appreciated.
Have looked on line but most advice is old and limited to remove Hard drive and link to computer, it appears all the ports do not give access to thr HDD

About the only way to do this is to connect the box via scart to another recording device and play them in real time whilst recording on the second device.
It is possible to remove the hard drive from the sky box, but the files are encoded and can only be played back in the Sky box due to the Sky card being used to decrypt the encoded files.

Thanks for this, rather suspected this would be the case. Would another sky card work in it? Would it work if we put in place of mine, which is identical. Not sure if the old boy is up to another gadget , who knows, just feel sorry for him

Hmm. Another Sky card should, in theory, work. I don't think, but am not 100% sure, that the content is 'locked' to a particular card, as long as it is a legitimate card to un-encrypt the data.

Sorry, I don't have any more info then that. May be worth trying with another card, It's got 2 chances.

Thanks again, I think I may be up against a brick wall , as we were hoping the material could be uploaded to dvd, but it seems that you cannot get Dvd with HDMI input, for copywrite reasons , so unless we find old one with twin scarts we are lost
Probably best to look for the films on DVD already
Cheers

Ive looked into this before and its near impossible to get the content off of a sky box to another sky box or similar. Unless recording it like someone saud before. Im planning on upgarding to a Q box and am prepared to loose all rexordings

I believe, if you remove the phone line from the old box before change over, the box will continue to work. Apparently they send a kill signal to disable it.
It will need linking to the aerial signal to boot up though but your recordings should be still available With the old card in place

if you own the box you don't need a phone line,if you don't have it connected to internet you do not get all full content, every thing is connected by card when our box packed in and got a new box all recordings and series links came back when card was put in box
