Slats or straw or wood chip for lambing???

That’s great I’ll be happy to hold 70 unshorn ewes in it as we only house as we are lambing according to raddle colour. Already have enough room for 60 comfortably but was jamming ewes in sheds all around the yard so hoping to make life easier!!
If you're only bringing into lamb then why go for slats. They won't be in long enough to justify it and straw bedded will be so more flexible rest of the year. Slats are the job thogh if you are feeding lambs in the backend. What type of slat are you going for? Plastic or timber?

Ya I’ll be using them for lambs in winter aswell planning to house all light store lambs and store them over on good silage and few nuts until feb when lambing starts. And also rear suck calves after lambing

I’m not sure the wire mesh would suit calves? The plastic slats would be a good job for young calves I’d say
Sorry I didn't realise yours were wire mesh!

Would plastic slats for calves need a slurry tank or could they just be raised and cleaned out from underneath or when the calves are weaned?
If they were on plastic slats, would it not be too draughty for young calves?

Just thinking out lout, I have no experience with slats!

I’d say you would need a tank for calves or at least a channel along the front to catch the run off. If sheep are feed a dry diet the dung is dry and stacks up under the slats, I’d say with calves it would just run straight out the front

That was what I had in mind, a slight slope to the floor and a channel along the front.
