Slats

I thought you "should" put floors level and a kerb to hold a lair of water to your reception pit?
a sloped floor would result in no water being under the slurry to transport it?

a while bag I suggested a completely slopeing floor and it was dismissed for these reasons.
similarly why a long slurry passage is level with dams rather than continuous slope.
I will try putting in a kerb and see if it helps.I will be most grateful if it does and sick as a pig that no one told me earlier

iN 180 FOOT long how many mixing points will i need ? i was hoping one either end or will need to get the pump into th middle when emptying ?

You could put a pump at one end and run a pipe back into the channels, all concreted in, and pump slurry out at one end and pump it back in half way down. That’s what we’re doing at that job you came to. Pump can be used to pump into a tower as well in future

Doesn’t take much. I’ve some kerbs I put in a 40 year old channel in problem spots. They’re made from dry square larch posts. Cut to size and banged in. Expand when soak up water and solid. Worked a treat. But that channel is only 3’ wide

I was mixing about 150 foot with 2 pumps, one in opposite corners.
Was going fairly well , but we have collected fair bit of rain (in the last month) to aid mixing.
We spend more time ensuring whole tank mixed at this time of year when no cattle in and slurry level well below lintels.
Also important to get rid of any crust before cows come in as fresh dung will build up on it and liquid runs of it leaving a dry lump, surprising how it grows!
Needs a mixing point preferably at each end of a run of slats, as can be difficult to mix thru the pillars.
We have a small area about a square m that no matter what I do can't mix it with pump.

Mixing points in the middle could be handy, but if you end up matting the shed you would need to be carefully running on them to get to mixing point

IMG_20180827_121555.jpg this wee chap must of been living in the lump that we struggle to mix, slurry gas must not bother them, he spent ages hanging on in-between a slat

Do any of you lads use the paddle type mixers that will drop through and gap on the slats anywhere on the shed? I’ve a mate that made one out of a topper gearbox and some box section for paddles he says it works brilliantly

The gap between the bars in a gang slat are only about 40mm so I doubt you could get anything strong enough to use as a paddle that would fit through the gap. We used a paddle mixer for years, but you had to lift off a single slat each time to allow the paddle into the tank. Did a good enough job of mixing though.
