Slaughter codes for halal

There's some evil barstewards about

Almost all abattoirs in the UK are halal certified, it increases the market you can sell the carcass too. You might be able to shift shoulders to butchers but the rest might go to kebab trade. Pre-stun halal is like 80% of all slaughters in the UK, it is a small minority that are no stun.

From the Gov site:-

You must meet all of the following requirements for halal and kosher religious slaughter:
  • it must take place in a slaughterhouse (abattoir) approved by the Food Standards Agency (FSA)
  • it must be done by someone who has a certificate of competence (CoC)
  • the slaughter must be done in a way that follows Jewish or Islamic religious practice
  • the meat must be intended for consumption by Jews or Muslims.
Now that rule is being broken on a daily basis. Most hospital, prison and school meat is halal. To ensure the rule is kept, why is the meat not labled as such?

The Jewish community is the biggest protestor to slaughter method labeling. They are actively fighting against it because of the fear they have, for the reality of how much Kosher meat (rear half of all Kosher killed animals) goes out to the wider public.

The Muslim community, mostly, supports labeling and pre-stunning.

Despite anyones political or religious beliefs or concerns I think we all agree that as men who rear animals within strict (correctly) welfare codes, that high welfare should be lifelong --- including up to & just beyond the point of slaughter. It doesn't matter a jot to me if your a Muslim, jew, pagan or a jedi; but if your religious beliefs mean that my animals have to suffer more in their final seconds than they have their entire life, then I'd rather not sell to you (and accept less money)

What I meant was there seems to be a few non stun abattoirs about, I know of three that have been exposed purely on animal abuse alone

Ie...is non stun really the minority
All I can go by is the stats which say that 80% of halal lamb is pre-stunned. I have seen some halal lamb slaughtered in Scotland, all pre-stunned.

@Old Boar and @Bruce Almighty make good points about kosher slaughter, particularly the fact that Jews will only eat the forequarter of a beef carcase, so the rest goes on the open market. But it is much smaller numbers than halal and tightly regulated by the Rabbinical Commission (?).

And of course they're not muslim, so don't tend to whip up the same hostility.
