well its not goin
for the first time in 23 years i have an ongoing slow payment. eventually after a solicitors letter i got 3 cheques, one post dated and two not dated with the instructions to phone about what date to put on the last 2 when the previous one cleared. this worked ok for the first 2, but after getting no reply on the phone despite me using 5 different phones, i dated and posted the third one. he phoned the other day to say that one probablly wont clear and he will have to pay charges. unbellievable!!!!! btw hes not a farmer
well after 5 months the final cheque cleared even tho he said it wouldn't so i'm guessing the funds were there all the time

Have you factored in the extra time, envelope and stamp? Also the recipient may not cash the cheque for a while, so you never know when the money will go out. We went onto an internet biased charges schedule when we moved banks. Cheques now cost towards a pound but BACS is cheap as chips. Very rarely get the chequebook out these days.
Most of my payments seem to be EFTPOS nowadays. Cheques over the counter at the co op, garage, contractors and other farmers. Local mart seems to stick by cheques.

Don't underestimate the cost of paying cheques in as well. A special trip to pay a cheque in could well cost 20 quid! Our mart moved into this century years ago. If only we could drag ABP into the present!

Anyone else hate having to go and pay a cheque in? I fill in a paying in slip and post them or drop them through there letter box at a more convenient time, because I don't have time between 9.15 and 3.45. And the worse thing is I usually have to wait for 8 weeks for the cheque after possibly doing the job 4 weeks before billing then I have to wait a further 5 days for it to clear. So it can easily be 13 weeks! FFS
