Can anyone recommend a supplier of flush systems in the UK? thinking it would work well in the cow collecting yard if I can collect the parlour washings seperate. Any advice, do these systems work well or should I stay clear?
I looked at doing a new cubicle shed I built 14 years ago. Put a 3% fall on the floor. Main problem for me was that flushing with separated liquid from the slurry can get quite smelly being constantly recycled. I was looking at air operated pop up valves ( www.waveflush.com )
Latham farms near Newark had a home made system using big tanks in the ceiling with rubber flaps in the bottom over a 12" outlet pipe. They had a winch system to lift the rubber flap to let the water go.
Trouble I see would the the same problem I get with letting the collecting area washings run down the shed to grids at far end , even though the floor is clean as it's scrapped every hour the cows end up quite dirty on their rear due to tails getting wet when water runs down , then every time they swish their tails fine drops of dirty water goes every where, including over me when cleaning their beds ! The last thing I would want is water however clean running down the shed while the cows had their tails on the floor . In fact I'm going to have to invest in some bigger drains by collecting area to cope with the volume washer to prevent this .
I think smell is the big problem I know a purpose built shed in south Wales that had to give up after a long court case from the surrounding residents.
Thanks for the replies, and I agree with most of your comments and wouldn't want a flush system in the cubicle sheds. I was simply thinking of installing it in the collecting yard behind the parlour. It has a good slope back to a slatted tank and would only get 2 flushes a day.
