the now illegal practice of firing slurry into the air, which gave a wide bouts was good for covering ground and reducing tracks. now we must shoot down, does anyone have an answer as to what is the best machine or spout to maximise bout width

A well designed, properly set down spread plate will spread wider than an old up spread plate. Haven't had any issues achieving a wide, even spread with Abbey, Herron and Hi-Spec plates.

I've been using the downward spreadplates off major for near 20 years, even use one on my umbilical, good spread pattern of circa 9m.

I was practising with my GPS last year while spreading slurry, so that when I needed it for spreading fertilizer I would know my way around the setup... and with the width on the GPS at 9meter I was getting between a foot and a yard of overlap most of the time, with downwards splash plate. Depends on the consistency of the slurry though, as with thick stuff it seems it doesn't spread far.

I would really like a Moscha... Sounds like something a coffee shop chain might try to sell you doesn't it? Have we had any confirmation whether we will be able to use them under the new Low Emissions rules that will be coming into play over the next few years yet? It seems a perfect replacement to the splash plate without the added weight, cost and power required for the alternatives.

No confirmation yet although I think the importer from castle Agri will be doing his best to get them approved.
Spreading 18m with them is a great job, especially in soft conditions, less runs means higher crop production.

Has anyone tried splash plate/Moscha/trailed shoe and drilled bar alongside each other and compared the regrowth?

Always wary seeing trial data by people who sell trailed shoes/fertiliser etc.

Most of our slurry goes on with man umbilical trailing shoe. About 40 acres we can't reach with it done with tanker and downward splash plate don't seem to have as good a ,silage crop as rest. Umbilicaled slurry all been through separator where as tankered straight from reception pit mostly so not quite comparing like with like.
