Slurry towers, roofs & mixers

As I've posted before all the concrete stores built in the 70s are still going strong,my tank is probably recycled into a new tank now,a good thing though is I got £3.5k for scrap.:)

In 06 I dug myself a lagoon and lined it,the cost of the liner and underlay was £8k,the biggest liner pre-welded was big enough to line a 620,000 gallon pit at the time.

Wall mixers get the slurry going round, but don't mix the top with the bottom until the store is almost empty. The mixer sits on a concrete plinth which should be tied to the foundation andaborbs any thrust fro the mixer. Having said all this, Aeromixers work best if everything in the store has passed through an animal. A lot of bedding or silage will end up forming a crust. The compressor only operates at night on cheap rate electricity, but there could be some smell when it does so.
What rpm are wall mixers meant to be run?

I'm also interested in the mixing point.
Do store's definitely need over top mixing?
Are these impermeable membranes ideal for opening to let an over the top stirrer in or is it really a no go?
Do they stay on the slurry layer ie you can run lower mixers when level gets lower.

Submersible electric mixers run on a timed cycle will keep the contents mixed all the time, preventing the need for the big horsepower over the top mixers. An hour a day with an 11kw Bauer MSXH mixer will keep a 2500 m3 store mixed quite comfortably. Also the depth is adjustable easily to ensure most efficient mixing.

So would you just recommend 2 of them mixers and run them an hour every day would you put them in opposite corners positioned to get the whole store spinning around?
Cheap night time electric?
Do they give much grief doesn't sound good electric under slurry.

5500m3 is quite a store :) We would be looking at probably 4 x 15kW mixers in a tank that size - I have assumed some dimensions as around 35m x 35m x 5m deep. Mixers mounted halfway along each wall, would allow the tank to be rotated, and also for the mixers to be moved periodically to drive into the middle to prevent an island building up in the centre.

mixing periods would depend to some extent on the dry matter content of the slurry, and the exact layout of the tank. Corners in concrete tanks don't lead to very efficient mixing.

The mixers are designed for installation in AD Digestors and run for thousands of hours with little trouble. They are fitted with double seals and an intermediate oil bath with internal sensors to detect any leakage and shut them down before any serious damage is done. Routine oil changes every 2 years or 4-6000 hours.

If you want to know any more just drop me a message and ill get back to you

That's a lot of electric use, and installation cost. It must be better to just separate before storage, as we do with our digestate.
