For those of you with annual production of less than 1,000,000 litres can apply for a payout.

What is the Small Dairy Farmers Scheme?
A fund of approximately £8.5m has been made available to support small dairy farmers in England. The scheme will provide a one off payment to eligible farmers who choose to apply.

Who can apply?
You can apply for this scheme if both of the following apply:

  • you had an annual cows’ milk production of up to 1,000,000 litres (or equivalent in kilograms) during the period 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2016

  • you are still active in cows’ milk production.
This scheme is for producers in England only. However, if you are a cross-border farmer in Wales or Scotland, you may apply if the majority of your land is based in England and you received your Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) 2016 payment from the Rural Payments Agency (RPA).

To convert from kilograms to litres, you should divide kilograms by the conversion rate of 1.03.

How and when to apply
To apply, fill in a small dairy farmers scheme application form and send it to RPA. These will be available on GOV.UK from 24 April.

Applications must be received by RPA by midnight on 31 May 2017. Applications received after this date will be rejected.

I was trying to guesstimate the payout but cannot find data for the number of producers in England doing less than 1 million litres .
7714 producers in total in April 17
Say 2500 apply = £3400
Appreciate per litre capped at 500000 litres.

The last dairy fund was divided up between all producers on how many litres they produced which was fair for all but some thought the larger producers shouldn't have got as much as the smaller producers per litre so the 1,000,000lt ceiling is going to stop that! As had been said on here many atime the smaller producer can out ride the storm better than the larger producers so maybe this scheme is the unfair one.

Bugger if you sent 1,000,001 litres for the first time and was chuffed to produce a million for the first time!

Great if you'd done over a million litres for the last decade, but had took the milk reduction scheme money and did 999,999 litres and you were now eligible for this scheme.

I think you will be surprised how many small farms there are still or even bigger farms who don't chase yields and dont do 1 mil.

Refreshing change for the little guy to get a look in and not be disadvantaged for once.

Can't remember figures but seem to remember that England had £27m this is £8.5m out of the fund so could be something available to bigger producers in future
