my sons go kart has a lct 208 cc engine ( Honda replica) been 100% then all of a sudden it reved up and down a bit and spluttered and cut out.. struggles to start now but will eventually start but as soon as you touch the throttle it cut out. Had a new carburettor and spark plug but not made any difference. Any ideas

Some of the copied distort the piston reducing the compression especially high revving ones............................... have two or three of them here on in a generator, power washer and one from a mixer......................................................................

Thanks for the replies so far. Plenty of fuel in the carburettor. Have by passed the governor. Going to see if it has a low oil switch in the morning.

Drain the fuel tank and carb, replace fuel with fresh bought petrol in a clean can.

I've seen people mess with engines for days when all it was was contaminated fuel.

Otherwise, next stop will be to try a new ignition coil.
They're only about £8

Sorry for the thread high jack but i have a similar problem on my beta rev 3 trials bike.
Starts 1st time with the choke out flick choke back in once running, will run for approx 10 seconds then cuts out and wont start. Pull choke and starts 1st time again. Clean spark plug and new fuel air filter clean and still same problem. Any ideas thanks

Sounds like the main jet may be blocked in the carb, I’d try cleaning that first. The choke is usually like an excess fuel switch on bikes so will run on the fuel from the choke then cut out when switched off.

I have a Honda lawn mower which a few years ago started acting oddly, start on choke and run fast for a while, put it on load and it would then die, after new plug, fresh fuel, cleaning carb, new air filter, turned out it was the coil breaking down.

Is there an easy way of getting to this or is it a carb off job? Looks a bit of a pig as its sat down in the bike frame with bugger all room!

I’m not familiar with you particular setup but on a lot of carbs the main jet will screw in from the bottom of the float chamber. Although sometimes it will be a case of removing the bottom of the carb to get to it. To be honest though if it’s blocked the jet your probably as well removing the carb and giving it a good clean out just to be sure.

have done the fuel when it first happened. Is there anywhere you would recommend to get parts from for this type of engine. Can only find parts from main buggy dealer.. new carburettor was £42 + delivery, Coil is £26.,
