Small/medium loading shovel recommendations?

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a small to medium sized loading shovel? Something that can ideally lift around 2 tonne.

I see JCB make a 409 and a 411... does anyone know how much roughly these are? and also if other manufacturers offer a similar product? I'm not interested in a telescopic.

Thanks,
Tom

Kramer's are good. I know you dont want a telescopic boom but they do a version with one for a bit extra reach. Reliable, manuverable and competent machines. I'm on my second kramer now.

We've had Kramer since 1981. Good machines, always had a bomb proof deutz engine. My cousin still has a 1993 one doing odd jobs with a gazillion hours on it. We moved over to their Wacker cousin's, Weidemann, in 2014, which was pivot steer for a change. Good machine too. Then I got a chance of an ex demo Schaeffer 8610 last year which was up 25hp, and lift, but nearly the same dimensions, and the hopefully bombproof deutz engine still, so jumped at it. Heavy built machine. Will keep this one a long time I think. Just over six foot wide, and a low profile cab.

Another vote for Schaffer. We’ve got a 2001 5058z with quicke euro headstock. Solid build, under 6’ wide, 60hp kubota engine, will fit in most tight spaces around farm, never a day it’s not used. Only downsides are not too clever in the the field when greasy/wet and slow on the road 20kph. Schaffer or Weidemann every time.

Thank you for all the replies. That Kramer through Farol looks good and good value too. I'm just trying to simplify what we do so going to a loading shovel over a telescopic would hopefully be cheaper capital cost, more sturdy (for example jobs like buckraking?) and also possibly save on the insurance? i.e loading shovels don't require 6 monthly safety inspections?

Yes i would be interested in JCB 411 too, i've messaged JCB today so will let you know if i hear anything back...

You only need 6 month inspections if the telescopic is used for a man platform regularly, annually otherwise.

Dealer got back to me yesterday, he says he doesn't know what a JCB 411 costs, so i asked him to find out. He says he's never sold one and would mostly advise a telescopic TM320 over a 411. He said price for a new TM320 will be in the early £70,000s.

Is a 411 an industrial 413? Same chassis, smaller engine, more basic hydraulics and gearbox?

JCB’s website has prices for construction spec machines, the 411 has a rrp of £88k,based on quotes for loadall I’ve had in the past you’d be looking at late £60s.

Even though I’m a fan of lower spec loaders I’d be buying a tm320 because you’re going to lose a bomb on a new wheel loader and limit your 2nd hand market.

Yes i can see what you mean. I heard back from the dealer last night, A JCB 411 is £70000, a 413 is £87000, and a TM320 is £73000.

The 320 s hold their value well. Last week at a farm sale a 66 reg with 2200 hours sold at £54k. If it was bought at mid £60ks, then that’s about £5 hour depreciation.
