Small pickup

Look at the Austin Maxi - tiny by comparison now

BUT cars are so much safer - crumple zones and side impacts and passive pedestrian safety

Also many old cars like the jags weren't that spacious inside

I had a Mini Pickup for 6 years back in the seventies and found it very useful. It would go almost anywhere, I don't recall ever getting it stuck.
My father bought a mini pickup around 1974 and my brother and I were appalled at his lack of judgement. Its ground clearance was almost non-existent and its reliability terrible. It would go anywhere as long as the ground was smooth as a baby’s bum. Changed it eventually for a Subaru which was in a different league but was itself not particularly reliable and drank like a fish. At least it didn’t ground out, had four wheel drive available and could tow a two [small] beast cattle trailer [which we’ve still got, but not roadworthy].
