Smart meters and PV

I have had a couple of increasingly insistent messages from Eon, wnating me to allow them to install a Smart Meter here. I have seen and heard enough about them to resist one.

However, the real concern I have, is how well they are working with a PV array now? The first roll out would not work with them as I understood it, and chuck my power diverter and other gubbins, and I am still not convinced at all. Thoughts or experiences anyone?

We've a smart meter on both the domestic and commercial side, both of which have PV systems.

No issues whatsoever.

Honestly, there's nothing to have much of an opinion about. On the domestic side all it means is I have a display which tells me how much I've spent so far each day, which is kind of useful, and on the business it just means I don't have a meter reader knocking on my door monthly wanting access to the services shed.

No messing with tarriffs changing through the day.... yet, then.

So, I guess the clamp is just after the meter?

Is it a smart meter or a modem to read it .

the older meters that have the spinning disc, some of them go backwards slightly, this acts as energy storage, so if you export a few kw during a sunny period of the day you get it back when the sun has go down, some of them have a back stop to prevent them going backwards

Can you stick a big magnet on to stop it

Mine's a modem , saves them sending someone to read it or guessing consumption

Is reading a meter really a big deal though? I read all mine monthly and use it to take a bit of time out and look about and look for problems at the same time.

Far rather this then then having big brother announcing they are changing there t’s and c’s leaving you with no option but to accept.

Maybe I’m old and grumpy? The dogs like the meter man and he now knows where to go so all good.

I have a Smartmeter and its wonderful, best thing since sliced bread.. I am on Octopus Go so I get 4 hours during the night at only 7p per kwh. During this time I charge my batteries that run the house for the rest of the day. Cant beat that.
