Thinking of coming into the 21st century and getting a smart phone. Possibly thinking Nokia lumia entry level but is it tough enough. Don't need to many whistles and bells just the option of uploading to tff,a screen that can be read outside and it to be relatively tough.
Needs to be able to cope with ag use!
Please don't reply with too much tech speak as it'll be over my head.

Think my Bro has a lumia, but it's windows run rather than android so the apps that are available are limited.

I maybe wrong mind!

iPhone as they may not be the best but they are easy to use and there are a lot of places the fix them cheaply and fast no having to send it away like other makes. But as said get a good case.

I get asked this question nearly once a week and I stick with iPhone as well! Get a rugged case for it and you'll be fine. The menus etc.. all make sense and if you are a learning smartphone user I think the best you can get yourself! They cost a boat full of money so you might want to try a second hand one first? Plenty about. Sold my previous three iPhones to farmers who are all chuffed to bits with them still.

iphone gets my vote every time. Good phone that is compatible with practically every app out there plus there are so many of the things out there that if you do get stuck with how to use it there is always someone who can help you out. There are also some excellent YouTube instructional vids on t'internet that show you how to deal with any specific problems that are very handy.

Ok, but you are on TFF at least 18 hours/day & probably talking on the phone for the rest of them - you'd wear out the battery on anything!
There is quite a variation in phones also. Have just upgraded from a 5S to a 6 and despite a larger screen the battery will last a lot longer. I do have to agree on signal though. Older phones were or are much better at that. However compare new smartphones like for like and they all seem equally bad if you like.

Sony experia z1 is pretty good, they are quite large though so do go to a shop and handle them, BUT for functionality they are brill, I have the gatekeeper web app on it and that has at least halved the time I spend doing crop records. Recently I have also made a simple spreadsheet on google sheets to keep a track of all servicing. I also have started doing some for farm assurance and intend to do more as it can be filled in as I do things instead of forgetting and then doing it later on:rolleyes:.

they are waterproof, dust proof and have toughened screens, BUT as FT says, they still break so need respect.

They also make good phones.

Another vote for iPhone.
Cheap second hand ones are usually pretty good, anything from 4S onward.
At this point people usually accuse you of being a sheep and just following the other Apple worshipers, well actually I like my iPhone for what it is. It could be a Tesco for all I care :D

No screen cover on mine and only case is a silicon outer skin so it doesn't slip out of my pocket. Full time farming and haven't damaged one in many years.

Modern smartphones are so stuffed full of other functionality the actual bit that makes & receives calls in rural areas far away from wifi & 3G has been neglected somewhat.

I'm on my second iPhone in 4 years. 3GS did well but the battery didn't last well. The 5 I have now is better & gets better signal too. Turning background apps & bluetooth off helps the battery life considerably. iPhones are easy to use and there are plenty of accessories around for them, being the current market leader. A decent case will make them much more robust, especially an Otterbox. I'm sure that Samsung will be the market leader in years to come & Nokia may well disappear like Blackberry but for now it's still all about Apple.

The phone or the chocolate?

I know several happy Galaxy users. None have covers, most have cracked screens!
:LOL::LOL::LOL:
Was the first incarnation, and it happened when she put samsung kies onto the pc, it didn't like it one bit and went into blue screen death:(

I like the chocolate:hungry:
