smart water meter

We have just had a smart water meter fitted to the house, not something I really wanted but Water plus have basically forced me into this(long story). For the time being I will live with it.

All our buildings are on spring so no livestock use the mains supply.

My question is does anyone know when smart water meters came into use in the uk?

Do they need a power supply. If so will struggle here. Both meters circa 400 m from nearest power
No power supply necessary they have internal battery good for 15 years apparently.

Don’t know just how close they have to be to pick up a signal and gather the data we are serval hundred meters away from the main road. Will be interesting to see how the system operates.

Our meters have been the ones they drive by and pick up the reading without opening the cover for years. Never had any issues, didn't realise there was any other type now
Could I ask how many years approximately?

Just trying to establish when they came into service.

We now have digital meters for our water, (I guess they are drive by and read ones). Our domestic supply is no different but the supply to the farm is on a separate meter and the pressure is much reduced since the introduction of the new meter. I did contact Anglian Water and explained that it now takes 30 minutes to fill a 205 litre barrel. They tested everything locally and said that the pressure was within tolerance. I think the new meter is only 15 mm.bore instead of the 22mm. that we previously enjoyed. It is frustrating when we are flat out spraying as by the end of the day we are struggling for water. Beware if you are due for a meter change.

Even fitting a 15mm meter on a 22mm system should actually make little difference to the flow and zero difference to the pressure on no flow.
It sounds as if something has got into the system severely restricting the flow when they made the change.

Around here (affinity water) they are getting around to fitting smart meters to all customers, especially those like me that were still on yearly rates.

They got round to fitting one here a year ago. I have the option to go by the metered reading straight away or defer it for 2 years. They take a reading every qtr and tell you your usage.

My rated water is around £360 per year and the metered water equates to around £1200 :( on current use.
Got to get used to showering less...........:poop::cautious:

1200 for just a house , that sounds a lot, have you got a leak?

No leak, i've checked !!, just what we use at the moment. Power showers get used on average 5/6 times a day, washing machine and dishwasher daily. Just going to have to think about usage a bit more seriously soon...

Meter fitted Oct 20th last year 1230cu/m on it now:banghead:
