Why would you switch a phone off at night? Leave mine on 24/7, but have it set to restricted callers overnight - you won’t get through to me but my mother and other important numbers would, if they needed me in an emergency.

Phones only need switching off and restarting once every month or two to clear their brains, in my experience. It's too useful as an alarm clock to switch off at night, although it would probably wake itself up to alarm. They are clever things.

Yes , exceptionally clever things . I'm constantly amazed at their capabilities , indeed I use mine as a constant reference manual for all things - and it's never failed me so far . And also , as a bonus , you can actually make and receive calls on it , a basic quality that we sometimes forget (y). I've always shut my phone down at bed - time , just something I've always done . Perhaps I'll look into leaving it switched on in future in restricted mode . BTW , is there any reason , safety-wise perhaps that I shouldn't leave it plugged in overnight on charge ?

I've always left my phones charging overnight, with the supplied charger though, not some unknown ebay junk.
