Had my Rivers West jacket a week now and I'm pretty impressed to be fair! £80 quid totally wind proof and not let any water through. Not cold on the quad at all this week with just a jumper and shirt underneath. Definitely recommend one. The little zips on the side really help getting off and on. Only thing it really needs is a third popper on the front pocket. Was catching a bit of snow this morning.

think rivers west will be the one, what's the fabric like? does it catch much dirt? @_sheptastic
It's a fleece fabric which I wasn't expecting! The dirt just drys and falls off like a swanndri and water just balls up and rolls off. Sizeing wise large fits me spot on ( normally buy large shirts/jumpers) where as large swanndri is like extra large clothes.

How has the smock stood up to Doris, and Ewan today?

The weather today I swap my smocks for Stormline oilskins. Would the Rivers West stand upto the hard driving rain?

We didn't actually get a lot of rain just plenty of wind! And I was vaccinating ewes inside lol.
I'm sure it wouldn't let any water in even in driving rain but it does hold water so the outer layer feels wet to the touch. To be honest I would just stick a plastic waterproof jacket on if it's pouring down just cos they don't need to be dried out. Just hang them in the garage job done.

How are your stormline waterproofs holding up think you got yours about the same time as me. Mine are getting a bit hard up.

Very happy with them. But I only wear them in torrential rain, really. The jacket is still like new - had it on yesterday and today actually.

The bib & brace I wore all last winter and lambing. There is 1 tiny hole halfway down my inner thigh - I'm guessing barbwire was the culprit. Need some glue to put a patch on it. Otherwise they are still like new, too.

I feel them to be quite cold though when out on the bike. Out in that today and yesterday I just have flexothane leggings over my jeans and a fleece jacket under the stormline jacket. Last winter in the bib and brace my legs were frozen all winter...

wanted to post a follow up, didn't realise how useful this top would be till I got it. So waterproof, and warm in colder weather. The long length and low back have been fantastic at keeping my back warm (have lower back problems) and giving me somewhere to sit. But biggest revelation has been the pockets. two large chest pockets; the pouch pocket and the handwarmer pocket have been so useful. so handy for lambing supplies, especially when trying to sort things on own front pocket becomes a bucket for everything I need close at hand. Fantastic quality and so far has stayed pretty clean... which mrs is loving.

Almost 2 years on...

@Downton_shep (that took a bit of realising you've changed your name!!) @Grimsbyforever how's the Rivers West smocks holding up??

My Glenwood one still looks like new! Put it through the washer with Nikwax last week and re-done the seams it'll see through it's 4th lambing no worries (y)

But I've gone and caught the front of the Ridgeline pintail on the corner of the Hogg hopper this morning and put a decent hole in it :banghead:

To be honest I haven’t seen it since lambing time! Someone told me the other day it’s chucked in the sink in the straw shed.
The main reason being I got a buggy so therefore don’t suffer getting wet and just use my Swanndri.
It did fade really bad though, from a nice dark green to a light browny green. I only really noticed it when someone else on the farm bought one (another reason I don’t wear it anymore)
One of the keepers here has bought a Stoney Creek smock, looks really good quality but not cheap.

You soft bugger :p:ROFLMAO:

Cheers. I love the big one I have for winter and lambing time, but the Ridgeline was brilliant towards the end of spring and summer

There's quite a few companies caught on with selling smocks now - Hoggs of Fife, Jack Pyke, Pinewood... plus all the 'big' names. Might see what I can pick up in the new year sales (y)
